Drive unit & motor
Tesla & EV drive unit and motor repair in Sharjah
A clunk from the rear, a drive-unit warning or an isolation fault can all point to the drive unit: the motor, inverter and gearbox that turn the wheels. We test it to find the cause, then replace motor bushes, repair isolation faults or change the drive-unit oil.

What is your car doing?
Pick what you notice. We’ll show the system it is often related to and what to send us. Only a check at the workshop can confirm the cause.
- A clunk from the rear when you accelerate or lift off Often related to Drive unit & motor
- A whine or hum from the rear motor Often related to Drive unit & motor
The work
What the check covers
- Motor and subframe bushes for cracks, wear and movement
- Drive-unit mounts and the subframe around them
- Drive-unit oil level and condition
- Oil or coolant leaks around the drive unit
- Stored drive-unit alerts and fault history
- Insulation resistance of the high-voltage parts, to trace an isolation fault
What we repair
- Motor and drive-unit bush replacement
- Drive-unit isolation fault repair
- Drive-unit oil change
- Drive-unit removal and refit for repair
In detail
What the drive unit does
On a Tesla and most other electric cars, the drive unit combines the electric motor, the inverter that feeds it from the high-voltage battery, and a single-speed gearbox. It sits on rubber bushes and mounts that carry the motor’s torque into the car’s subframe.
An electric motor gives full torque from a standstill, so those bushes and mounts work hard every time you pull away or slow down with regenerative braking. Over time the rubber can crack or soften and the drive unit moves more than it should. Owners usually notice it as a clunk when pulling away or lifting off, often over speed bumps.
Isolation faults
An isolation fault means the car has detected that current may be leaking from the high-voltage system to the body. The car may limit power or refuse to drive until it is fixed. The cause can sit in the drive unit, the battery or another high-voltage part, so it is traced with tests rather than by swapping parts. Faults outside the drive unit are covered on our HV battery and power electronics page.
Drive-unit oil
The gearbox inside the drive unit runs in oil that lubricates the gears and, on some designs, also helps cool the motor. We change the drive-unit oil as a repair or a service item, and look for leaks at the same time.
Not sure the noise comes from the drive unit? Start with EV diagnostics, or compare it with the symptoms on the suspension and steering page.

FAQ
Questions owners ask
Is a clunk from the rear always the drive unit?
No. Worn motor or subframe bushes are a common cause on Teslas, but suspension links and joints can sound very similar. That is why the bushes, mounts and suspension joints all need checking before a part is replaced.
Can I keep driving with an isolation fault warning?
Follow the message on the screen. If the car says it may not restart, or tells you to stop, park somewhere safe and contact us or your roadside assistance.
An isolation fault means the car has found a possible current leak from the high-voltage system, so it should be checked before the car goes back to normal use.
Do you replace complete drive units?
Where the fault allows it, we repair the drive unit: bushes, isolation faults and oil. If a drive unit does need replacing, we explain the options before any work starts.
How often does the drive-unit oil need changing?
It depends on the model and how the car is used, so check your owner's manual or send us the model and year. We can check the oil level and condition whenever the car is in.
Noise or warning from the drive unit?
Send the model, year and a short video of the noise or a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.
