AC & heat pump

Tesla & EV AC and heat-pump repair in Sharjah

When the AC in your electric car stops cooling, the cause is often the compressor, the condenser, a leak or a blocked filter. We replace compressors and condensers, change cabin filters, refill the AC gas and flush the system.

What is your car doing?

Pick what you notice. We’ll show the system it is often related to and what to send us. Only a check at the workshop can confirm the cause.

What do you notice?

Pick a symptom to see where to start.

What the check covers

  1. Refrigerant pressures and leaks
  2. Compressor operation
  3. Condenser condition and airflow at the front of the car
  4. Cabin air filters
  5. Heat-pump valve and sensor operation

What we repair

  • AC compressor replacement
  • Condenser replacement
  • Cabin filter replacement
  • AC gas refill
  • AC system flushing

How the AC works on an electric car

An electric car has no engine belt to drive the AC. The compressor is electric and runs on the high-voltage battery, which is why the AC keeps working in traffic or while the car is parked. The refrigerant then passes through the condenser at the front of the car, where the fans push the heat out.

On many EVs the same circuit also cools the battery, for example during fast charging on a hot day. When the AC is weak, battery cooling can suffer too, and some cars then slow down charging to protect the battery.

Why UAE summers are hard on EV air conditioning

With outside temperatures in the mid-40s °C for weeks, the AC runs at full load for much of the day. Fine dust and sand collect in the condenser fins and the cabin filters and cut the airflow. Cleaning the condenser and radiator is part of our cooling system service, and it can help an AC that only struggles in traffic.

Compressor or condenser?

A failed compressor usually means no cooling at all, sometimes with a noise or a warning. A damaged or clogged condenser gives weak cooling that gets worse when the car is standing still. After a compressor failure, debris can travel through the circuit, so the system is flushed before the new compressor goes in.

Heat-pump cars

On a heat-pump Tesla, one compressor and a set of valves heat and cool both the cabin and the battery. Faults can show up as poor cooling, poor heating or a warning about cabin or battery temperature. The fix starts with finding which part of the circuit is at fault; see also the Tesla Model Y page.

Questions owners ask

Why does my Tesla's AC get warm when the car is parked or charging?

The condenser at the front needs airflow to get rid of heat. When the car is still, only the fans move air, so a condenser clogged with dust or a low refrigerant charge shows up first in traffic or while charging. It can also be a compressor fault, and the system pressures show which it is before any part is replaced.

Is an AC gas refill enough?

Only if the system has no leak. AC gas is not used up: if it is low, it has escaped somewhere. A refill only lasts once the leak is found and fixed.

What is a heat pump, and does my car have one?

A heat pump uses the AC circuit to heat the cabin as well as cool it. The Tesla Model Y has one, and so does the Model 3 from the 2021 model year. On these cars the same circuit also helps manage the battery's temperature, so an AC fault can affect charging too.

How often should the cabin filter be changed in the UAE?

Dust and humidity can load a cabin filter faster here than in milder climates. Your owner's manual gives the interval for your car, and we can change the filters during any visit.
